Beer brewers from area will be on hand with product samples
The James-Younger Gang will ride again…..at least in a rye ale form at the Hay Lake Beer Tasting later this month.
The public can show its support for the Washington County Historical Society by raising a glass and offering a toast during the fifth annual beer tasting event at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 23rd.
The event will be at the Hay Lake Museum complex, located at the corner of CR-3 and Old Marine Trail in Scandia. “Whether you enjoy a good lager or pale ale, we are sure to have something for everyone to enjoy,” said Brent Peterson, executive director of the historical society.
Hayes Scriven, executive director of the Northfield Historical Society, will be featured on the program and will discuss the path in which the Northfield Historical Society took to create and brew its own brand of beer.
The beer, James-Younger 1876 Rye Ale, was named for the infamous attempted bank robbery that took place in Northfield. Samples of the finished beer will be on hand for tasting after the presentation.
The beer tasting, with samples from Lift Bridge Brewery, Still-H20, Surly Brewing, St. Croix Brewing Co., Rush River Brewery of River Falls, WI, Flat Earth Brewing Co., Summit Brewing Co. of St. Paul, and Barley John’s Brewpub will begin after the presentation.
The tasting is open to anyone over the age of 21. Admission is $10.
The Scandia-Marine Lions Club, which has been dedicated to service of the area for generations, will be selling food throughout the evening for a small additional fee.
Prior to the beer tasting, the St. Croix Base Ball Club will be taking on the Northfield Silver Stars next door to the museum at the park. The match of the 1860s rules of base ball will begin at 2:15 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. There is no cost to attend the ball game.
