A 20-year-old man from Rosemount, formerly of Ham Lake, has died following a one-car crash on North Shore Trail N. in Forest Lake early Saturday morning.

On Monday, Forest Lake Police Capt. Greg Weiss identified the crash fatality as Joshua Stephen Berg of 2924 138th St., Rosemount. Weiss said Berg had been in Forest Lake visiting friends.

Weiss said Berg was traveling west in the 7800 block of North Shore Trail (CR-2) at 5:35 a.m. when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and crashed into a tree. Berg was alone in the vehicle and was not using a seat belt, Weiss said.

Berg had been on life-support since arriving at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, on Saturday morning in critical condition with head trauma.

He was pronounced dead on Sunday, June 16, Weiss said.

Forest Lake High School confirmed on Monday that Berg was a 2010 graduate of Forest Lake High School.

Weiss said it appeared that Berg hit the right shoulder of the road, overcorrected, crossed the east bound lane of North Shore Trail and ran off the road, hitting a tree.

North Air Care transported the man to Regions Hospital from the crash scene, Weiss said.

Weiss said Berg previously lived in Ham Lake, but was now living in Rosemount with his mother, Angie Mendez

A memorial service and family gathering has been fro 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 22 at Maranatha Church, US-61 in Wyoming.
