Legion still some $8000 below goal
American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake will make one final push to reach its 2012 fund-raising goal to support this year’s Fourth of July celebration.
It will come with some help from the Friar. That is Friar Tuck’s at 1500 S. Lake St. (US-61).
The Forest Lake bar and restaurant will sponsor its annual hot tub event on Saturday, June 23 to help raise funds to support the American Legion’s parade and fireworks fund.
A host of events are planned, including specials on food and drink, music, the hot tub and even a bikini contest.
The fun gets underway at 7 p.m. At 9 p.m., Friar Tuck’s will introduce The Jager Girls from Jägermeister and a bikini contest with a $100 first-place prize.
Music by Gary Charles will add to the fun as guests take turns in the hot tub in the Friar Tuck’s parking lot.
As Legion Post 225 heads into its 88th annual Independence Day celebration, the drive to raise funds for the parade and fireworks is $8000 below its target, said Post 225 Commander Krista Goodyear.
The Legion’s 88th annual Fourth of July celebration will begin on Friday, June 29 and continue through Wednesday, July 4th.
Post 225 continues to make final plans for the 10 a.m. parade on July 4th.
Convertibles to carry special guests in the parade are still in need. Anyone with an open car that they would like to drive in the parade is asked to call Kris Quehl at 651-464-7231 or 651-210-7243, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The call for final registrations for the July 4th parade is also going out this week. More information about parade entries can be obtained by calling the Legion Post at 651-464-2600 or by visiting the Legion’s website at www.post225.com.
The Legion is also inviting any active duty or reserve military personnel to march in this year’s parade on Wednesday, July 4. Anyone wishing to participate is asked to muster at 9 a.m. at the American Legion.
Military personnel will be marching behind the combined American Legion and VFW Post 4210 Color Guard.
For more information, call the American Legion at 651-464-2600.
The 2012 celebration theme is “Freedom — The American Dream.”
The six-day celebration will include bingo, food, music, carnival rides and a beer garden at Post 225, 355 W. Broadway Ave. The celebration is capped by the traditional Independence Day fireworks display at 10 p.m. over First Lake just off Lakeside Memorial Park in downtown Forest Lake.
