Train rides resume at Ironhorse Central outside Chisago City
Ironhorse Railroad Park now open
Train rides have resumed for the 2012 season at the Ironhorse Railroad Park, located on the grounds of the Ironhorse Central Railroad Museum, 24880 Morgan Ave., Chisago City.
Park operator Erik Thompson began operations on June 1. The grounds will be open Wednesday through Sunday through Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 3.
Several additions have been made to the park this summer. A petting zoo has been added featuring ducks, chickens, goats, geese, sheep, rabbits and a donkey. A miniature train ride is also in operation this year.
Two real-life train rides are also offered at the park. The Highliner diesel train pulling a caboose and a platform car will operate at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesdays through Fridays with runs at 10:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Saturdays and at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Thompson’s Bumblebee train will run at different times than The Highliner. The Bumblebee will have six runs on Wednesdays through Saturdays starting at 10:45 a.m. with the final run at 4:45 p.m. Sunday’s Bumblebee runs are 2 and 4 p.m.
With the train rides, petting zoo and picnic grounds, Thompson says the park is a perfect location for any kind of party or group gathering. Child care facilities have brought groups and the park has hosted birthday parties.

The park is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1-5:30 p.m. on Sundays. The admission includes unlimited train rides, museum pass and petting zoo.
