All veterans, residents welcome at this Yellow Ribbon celebration
Are you an area resident who would like to thank a veteran for their service?
Are you a veteran who would like to take part in a community celebration honoring the service of veterans?
Wednesday, July 25 will be a day for area residents to answer both questions when the Forest Lake Yellow Ribbon committee hosts a “welcome home” celebration to honor recently deployed veterans who are now working their way back into civilian life.
The 5:30 p.m. Military Appreciation Community Picnic will take place at Lakeside Memorial Park in downtown Forest Lake. All area veterans and local residents are invited to this Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program.
The evening will include music, fun, free hot dogs and more, event organizers said this week. There will be games for kids.
It could be an important evening for the local Yellow Ribbon campaign for another reason. By July 25, it may be confirmed that Forest Lake will be officially added to the list of Yellow Ribbon communities.
The formal presentation of the proclamation won’t be presented until September, but picnic planners hope the official announcement can be made next week.
The Yellow Ribbon campaign formed last October and has a broad base of community members, church and school leaders, local governmental leaders and members of American Legion Post 225 and VFW Post 4210.
Krista Goodyear, the current commander of Post 225, is also chair of the Yellow Ribbon steering committee.
