A shutout of DeLaSalle sent the Post 4210 VFW boys into the second round of the Seventh District tournament this week.

Paul Stehr tossed a one-hitter in Sunday’s 7-0 win at Schumacher Field. He struck out six with no walks and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning.

Forest Lake took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Tim Yaritz doubled and scored on an RBI double by Cody Mehsikomer.

Coach Kale Henry’s squad struck for two more in the bottom of the fourth. Stehr started the rally with a double and a single by Skyler Winning made it 2-0. Singles by Mehsikomer and Brett Gravelle then loaded the bases.

Alex Egle laid down a bunt, easily scoring the lead runner on a suicide squeeze. As DeLaSalle casually threw Egle out at first, Mehsikomer raced around third and beat the throw home to cap the wild play.

Yaritz, Stehr and Mehsikomer added RBIs in a three-run sixth inning.

The win carried Forest Lake into a best-of-three series with seventh seed Blaine. The winner will move on to the eight-team, double elimination tournament to be hosted at Schumacher from Friday through next Wednesday.

The series opener at Blaine was washed out on Monday. It was rescheduled for 3 p.m. today (July 25) with a second game to follow. The third game, if necessary, will be held this Thursday.
