Post 225 wins opener in district tourney

Forest Lake rallied to beat Prior Lake on Wednesday in the first round of the Third District American Legion baseball tournament. Post 225 fell behind 4-0 but scored the game’s final seven runs.

Starter Phil Sauer got stronger as the game went on and did not allow a hit over the final four innings.

Drew Svendsen started a four-run rally with a double in the fifth inning and singled to start the sixth, when Forest Lake went ahead 5-4.

The score held until the eighth, when Jack Schmidt hit a two-run double to put Post 225 ahead by three.

Matt Schmidt and Dylan Dresel had three hits apiece.

At 7:30 tonight (Thursday), Forest Lake – the third seed – will meet sixth-seeded Northfield, who beat Eagan 4-3 on Wednesday. The game will be held in Dundas. Jack Schmidt will be the starting pitcher.
