A three-game winning streak has helped the Forest Lake Brewers secure a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Brew Crew will rest up during the first round of the double-elimination Section 2 tournament, which will be held in town at Schumacher Field from Aug. 3-12.

Metro Minny League-leading Isanti (28-6, 16-2) has secured the top seed.

Forest Lake (16-9, 12-5) beat Big Lake and Blaine last week and St. Francis on Sunday, then wrapped up the regular season at East Bethel on Tuesday.

The Brewers charged ahead early and got a dominant start from Mike Swenson in a 9-1 home win against Big Lake last Wednesday. Alex Johnson went 2-4 with three RBI while Mike Schultz had a double, a triple, an RBI, a run scored and a walk.

Travis Evgen allowed two runs in eight innings as the Brewers won 4-2 in Blaine on Friday. Tyler Henderson had three hits and Brent Kolbow and John Mollner two apiece. Jeff Brooks added an RBI and picked up the save.

Four players had multiple hits as the Brewers mashed to a 7-1 win in St. Francis on Sunday. Matt Zidar allowed one hit over seven innings. Brooks and Drew Cremisino homered while Ty Cremisino reached base three times and drove in two runs.

Information on Forest Lake’s playoff schedule will be posted at as it becomes available.
