Forest Lake Park Board backs marina plan

The plan to build a public marina at Lakeside Memorial Park cleared a hurdle Monday night, as the Forest Lake Park Board lent its recommendation to a proposal submitted by Your Boat Club. The Minneapolis-based business was one of two to respond to the city’s request for proposal. The Economic Development Authority and City Council will review the project next Monday, Aug. 27.

Considering the objections to the marina, I find it interesting that the park board would back a plan that would bring many transient boaters to Forest Lake. I was under the impression that one of the selling points was to secure boating for Forest Lake residents that do not have access to Forest Lake. Your Boat Club is more like a timeshare. You can boat on any location they secure. I would prefer having boaters that invest in, live in and want to use their privately owned boats on our lakes. I do not believe transient boaters will have the same feeling we all have about our most important asset. I believe White Bear Boat Works understands this concept after operating for so many years on White Bear Lake.
