The Rangers may hope to fly under the radar in girls’ tennis, but that seems a longshot after they beat No. 9 Andover 5-2 at a triangular in Chisago Lakes last Friday. Forest Lake also beat the host Wildcats, 4-3.
The successful morning followed the team’s clean sweep at a quadrangular in Centennial. Last Monday, the Rangers topped Maple Grove, Cretin-Derham Hall and the host Cougars.
Taylor Shortly, Taylor Angelo, Chase Shortly and Megan Anderson, respectively, took first place at the four singles positions. Natalie Wright and Lindsey Tilton won at No. 2 doubles and Taylor Emly and Risa Anderson won at No. 3.
The No. 1 duo of Bailey Norby and Emily Riermann placed second, as did the No. 4 team of Rachel Baniecke and Alexa Bremer.
Forest Lake opened the season by placing fourth at an Aug. 17 tourney in Stillwater.
“The team took the losses at Stillwater pretty hard and came to play at Centennial,” said coach Violet Shortly. “I was very pleased with their resolve.”
Forest Lake opens conference play at No. 10 Stillwater this Thursday. Roseville comes to town next Tuesday.
