Soccer boys win one, lose two
Eiden notches four goals in opener
After clicking in a 4-1, season-opening win last Thursday, the Forest Lake boys’ soccer team failed to find the net in a pair of losses over the next two days.
The Rangers stand at 1-2 after the first week of play, having defeated Duluth Denfeld and lost to Duluth East and Coon Rapids. All three are Section 7AA foes.
Senior forward Matt Eiden showed he could be in for a big year as he produced all four goals in the win over the Hunters.
“We held some pretty good possessions and moved the ball around good,” said coach Matt Koehn. “We missed some opportunities but really showed what we could do this year and what we’re capable of.”
The ensuing losses played out similarly. Both came by 2-0 scores and featured goals off set pieces. The Greyhounds controlled the pace on Friday, while Saturday’s physical contest with the Cardinals was more back-and-forth. The latter game was scoreless at halftime.
The Duluth East and Coon Rapids games counted as home contests for Forest Lake but were played at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Forest Lake played at another section rival, St. Francis, on Tuesday. The Suburban East Conference slate begins Thursday, Aug. 30, at Mounds View.
Somerset (WI) visits next Tuesday.
