Through a State Department program, Liu Xin will teach Chinese at Lakes International Language Academy in Forest Lake for a full academic year.
The teacher was awarded one of 24 fellowships from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the 2012 Teachers of Critical Languages Program.
The program is designed to increase the study and acquisition of Arabic and Chinese by bringing Egyptian and Chinese teachers to the U.S.
Launched in 2006, it has provided fellowships to over 150 primary and secondary school teachers.
In addition to teaching their native languages, the exchange teachers expand the understanding of the world in their host communities by establishing strong ties with teachers, students, and parents. At the same time, they gain first-hand knowledge of the United States to share in their home countries.
