Ranger sports briefs for week of Sept. 6
Jankowski wins Irish Invite; FL boys 9th
The Forest Lake boys’ cross country team took ninth out of 17 teams at the Irish Invitational in Rosemount last Friday.
Senior Jacob Jankowski took first out of 124 racers with a time of 10:13 in the two-mile event. It marked the first win of his career.
Tommy Babcock (44th, 11:09), Leo Hipp (48th, 11:11), Alex Richert (65th, 11:29) and Quinn Duffy (73rd, 11:36) also scored for Forest Lake.
Host Rosemount edged White Bear Lake for the title.
Mustang swimmers top Forest Lake
The Ranger swimming girls suffered a 63-36 loss in their conference opener at Mounds View last Thursday.
Senior Jessica Dhaene won the diving competition with a score of 152.30. Sophomore Rachel Chatwin’s time of 1:16.14 was the second-fastest in the 100 breaststroke.
The team has its home opener against Park tonight, Sept. 6, and will take part in the White Bear Lake Invite on Saturday.
Thrilling opening win for FL spikers
Forest Lake topped Cambridge-Isanti in five sets in last Thursday’s volleyball opener, winning the deciding one 22-20. Miranda Haug totaled 18 kills with a .778 kill efficiency. Chelsesa Lautigar added eight kills, four blocks and 14 digs. Brenna Blake had a team-high 24 assists, while Hanna Morris and Katelin Kruger each served at 100 percent. Mariah Daninger blocked eight shots to go with seven kills.
“We will continue to improve and trust our team mates and better our communication,” said coach Sherri Alm. “We are looking forward to a great year and lots of positive energy.”
Soccer teams fall to Mounds View
The Mounds View soccer teams each beat visiting Forest Lake by scores of 2-0 last Thursday.
Last Tuesday, the Forest Lake boys tied St. Francis 3-3, while the Ranger girls fell to the Fighting Saints, 3-0.
Stillwater swings past FL tennis team
An early-season Suburban East clash went the way of homestanding Stillwater last Thursday. The Ponies topped Forest Lake 5-2 in girls’ tennis action.
The Rangers hosted Roseville on Tuesday, play at White Bear Lake today and host defending SEC champion Mounds View next Tuesday.
