The Chisago County Board of Commissioners has voted to set the 2013 preliminary levy for Chisago County $270,646 lower than the 2012 levy, representing a tax cut of almost 1 percent. Under state law, the final county levy, which will be adopted by the board in December, can be set lower than the preliminary levy but cannot increase. The final levy will be no higher than $31,397,021. This cut comes after the board kept the levy at the same level for four years.
“Chisago County homeowners and businesses need a break during this difficult economic period,” said Commissioner Ben Montzka. “Chisago County employees have worked very hard to continue to provide excellent local services in the face of significant funding cuts.”
