The Augsburg Centennial Singers will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 886 North Shore Drive in Forest Lake on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The concert features familiar hymns, barbershop and sacred music selections. A free will offering will be received.
Under the direction of Al Reesnes, the 60-member Centennial Singers take their name in remembrance of the 100th anniversary of the first Augsburg Gospel Quartet to visit to Norway in the 1890s.
Formed to commemorate the Augsburg College gospel quartet tradition, the group has been part of the Twin Cities music scene for 20 years.
From the late 1800s until the 1960s, gospel quartets traveled each summer, appearing most often in churches affiliated with the Lutheran Free Church that supported the college.
The Centennial Singers have made two trips to Norway, a concert tour in Florida and several visits to the southwestern U.S. They will present a series of concerts in Arizona in February, 2013.
