Ranger volleyball showed up to win in four last Tuesday when they traveled to Mounds View.

Forest Lake beat the Mustangs 18-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-23 with senior captain Miranda Haug leading the way with 13 kills and two blocks. Also contributing to the Ranger win was junior Chelsie Bethke with 8 kills and 2 blocks,

junior Mariah Daninger with 6 kills and 5 blocks. Senior captain Dani Galvez added 5 kills, while senior setter Rachel Shumaker had 33 setting assists.

“We played fired up team volleyball, which is the difference maker,” Forest Lake head coach Sherri Alm said. “When we bring energy and enthusiasm to our floor we play well. [We are] looking to be more consistent and pick up the intensity.”

But the Rangers’ wins ended there, as the team lost 3-0 at home to Cretin-Derham Hall on Thursday, before suffering another 3-0 loss to Anoka on the road.

Forest Lake’s other senior captain Hanna Morris had a good game against the Raiders after missing the Mounds View match with illness. She led the squad with seven kills and 15 digs. Daninger came up as a big blocker again leading the team with four and adding six kills on offense. Galvez had no hitting errors, and contributed five kills on the night.

Despite the loss, Alm was excited about the performance by Galvez.

“She is a fired-up player who is a spark for our team,” Alm said of the hitter.

After the Anoka loss on Monday, the Rangers’ overall record is 4-7. The squad faced Elk River at home on Tuesday, then plays Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at East Ridge.
