FL Tennis: Shortly sisters advance to state quarterfinals

 

Forest Lake sophomore Chase Shortly attacks on net during the Rangers 6-1, 6-4 victory over St. Cloud Tech in the first round of the Class AA state tennis tournament on Thursday morning.

 

Forest Lake’s dominant doubles duo of sisters, junior Taylor Shortly and sophomore Chase Shortly, advanced to the second round of the Class AA state tennis tournament on Thursday morning.

The Shortlys defeated Leah Wurm and Sam Eisenreich of St. Cloud Tech 6-1, 6-4 during the morning match.

Chase Shortly overpowered St. Cloud Tech with strong ground strokes throughout the first set, while Taylor came up big with two overhead net attacks to close the match.

The Rangers face Katherine and Jessica Aney of Rochester Century in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 25, at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota.
