FL volleyball girls finish season at St. Francis

Forest Lake senior Chelsea Lautigar and junior Mariah Daninger double block St. Francis power hitter Maggie Ewen during the third set of the 3-2 loss to the Fighting Saints on Friday night.

The Ranger squad finished its volleyball season Friday night at St. Francis High School with a 3-2 loss to the Fighting Saints in the second round of section 7AAA playoffs.

It was a nailbiter in front of a traveling Forest Lake fan section, losing in five with scores of 20-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20 and 15-17.

The Rangers started slow, having to adjust to the loss of captain and starter Hanna Morris to an ankle injury, but came back strong in the third and fourth sets to regain control of the match.

Despite a 4-1 lead, the final set became a back-and-forth battle. The Rangers remained aggressive on offense, but were unable to keep the Fighting Saints at bay, losing by two off a Fighting Saint kill.

Forest Lake came into the Friday night matchup with a No. 6 Section 7AAA ranking while St. Francis held the No. 3 spot. The Rangers went 14-14 overall this season with a conference record of 5-4.

The Fighting Saints travel to Elk River on Tuesday, Oct. 30, for the semifinal game against the No. 2-seed Elks at 7 p.m.
