FL Council stalls building department shakeup

The Forest Lake City Council at its Oct. 22 meeting tabled a matter related to a process it approved the month before. The council on Sept. 10 approved a reorganization of the building and community development departments that will save money through the elimination of one staffing position. The revamped department will have one building official at a supervisory level. All three staff members who are currently licensed as building officials applied. At the recent meeting, the council was asked to approve the hiring of Keith Willie to the supervisory position and the laying off of building inspector Dan Grinsteinner effective Dec. 31. However, council members Mike Freer, Jim Dufour and Jackie McNamara voted to table the matter for further study at a work session. The council will meet next Monday, Nov. 5.
