With Broadway Avenue all bright, shiny and new, the local VFW post could not help but provide a finishing touch this week. Post 4210 purchased flags to line the city’s main corridor and they were installed on Tuesday in preparation for Veterans Day. In all, 50 flags went up, lining both sides of the street. American flags hang from light poles from downtown west to the I-35 bridge. Above: Public works employee Mark Munkelwitz hangs a new flag near Broadway and SW Fourth Street Tuesday morning. Fittingly, it was a windy day. Right: Joining the American flag on the Broadway bridge are flags for the five branches of armed service, as well as the state flag and the flag for prisoners of war. The American Legion Post 225 continues to oversee the annual installation of flags along Lake Street.
