Housley knocks off Bunn in Senate District 39

The race to replace former state legislator Ray Vandeveer went down to the wire on Election Night. In the end, the seat of the former state senator from Forest Lake will remain in Republican hands.

Karin Housley made sure of that with a come-from-behind victory over DFL opponent Julie Bunn of Lake Elmo. Housley, of St. Mary’s Point, picked up 23,385 votes, edging the economist and former state representative by 631 votes.

Housley, a real estate business owner and talk radio host, dominated the race in Forest Lake, and also carried the vote in her opponent’s home city. Bunn carried Stillwater by a wide margin.

Locally, the new District 39 includes Forest Lake, Scandia, Marine on St. Croix and May Township.
