Andersen to lead school district’s ECFE

Former Centennial community education specialist Kate Andersen has been hired as the new Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) coordinator for Forest Lake Schools, replacing former ECFE coordinator Cindy Saarela, who has taken a new position with the South Washington County school district after eight years with ISD 831.

Andersen is a graduate of Mankato State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with minors in special education, early childhood and kindergarten. Prior to her work at Centennial, Andersen worked as a youth development manager in the community services department at Spring Lake Park, and prior to that position she planned and implemented curriculum for birth through preschool-age children in Detroit Lakes.

Most recently, she developed and assisted in the implementation and expansion of the preschool program at Centennial.

In Forest Lake, Andersen will oversee programs that provide information, support and resources to families with children from birth to the first day of kindergarten.
