Silent auction at Community Helping Hand helps pay for holiday meals

Kitchen gear still in the original packaging is part of one collection.

Stop in at the Community Helping Hand thrift store this week to bid in the holiday silent auction.

This major fund-raiser for the store, held for the fourth year, helps offset the cost of Thanksgiving and Christmas Meals.

This year 144 Forest Lake area families registered for Thanksgiving meal assistance, a 70 percent increase from the 2011 total of 83. Proceeds from the silent auction are important to fund this growing need.

Auction packages include a Minnesota Vikings fan basket and a set of gift cards from local restaurants.  Many of the baskets would make great Christmas gifts.

The silent auction is going on now and will end at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Also on Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa will visit the store to have cookies with kids big and small.

Community Helping Hand is located at 408 15th St. SW, behind Target.
