FL Dancers bring home the trophies

The Forest Lake dance team competed against seven conference squads last Tuesday and earned first place in the varsity jazz, junior varsity jazz and junior varsity kick competitions.

The varsity kick team took second behind Mounds View, putting the Rangers and Mustangs in a tie for first in the Suburban East Conference.

Head coach Cheryl Smoczyk said she was proud of how the junior varsity jazz squad continued to dance even after technical difficulties stopped the music mid-performance.

On Saturday, the Rangers rearranged plans  at the last-minute to accomodate for a competition cancellation at Rochester John Marshall. Instead, they attended the Fridley Invitational, where they competed against 14 schools and earned five trophies.

The varsity jazz, varsity kick, junior varsity jazz and B-squad jazz all took first, while the junior varsity kick team took third, despite numerous dancers out from injury or illness.

The Rangers are off until Saturday, Jan. 5 when they travel to the Henry Sibley Invitational, which starts at 9 a.m.
