Anoka County lowers tax levy

The Anoka County Board of Commissioners has voted in favor of a 2013 budget that decreases the property tax levy by more than $1 million.

The board continued its focus on paying down debt, streamlining service delivery, and applying innovative ideas. Cost-saving measures totaling $1,013,299 enable a net tax levy of $97,517,399, representing a 1.03 percent decrease from 2012.

Such measures include the implementation of an innovative system for billing insurance companies for managed care services, staggering hours at the county’s five service center in such a way as to increase service hours while reducing business hours, and the continuation of a voluntary serparation program that has allowed cost-effective staff restructuring.
