Lakes International Language Academy in Forest Lake has decided to offer all-day every-day kindergarten, beginning with the 2013/2014 school year. “We were going to do that just for the Chinese kindergarten, because there’s so much more rote memorization,” Assistant Director Shannon Peterson said. Now all kindergarten classes will be all day, every day.
St. Peter’s Catholic School in Forest Lake already offers an all-day, every-day kindergarten program.
The partial Spanish immersion programs in District 831 will not be affected by kindergarten changes, because partial immersion begins in Grade 1.
District 831 Enrollment Numbers
In the 2011/2012 school year, 441 kindergarten students were enrolled in District 831. This year there are 434.
Of the 441 last year, 193 enrolled in the district’s five-day kindergarten option at extra cost.
The number of kindergarten students who live in District 831 but enroll out of district is 114. This includes those who attend other public schools, either in a different traditional school district or at a charter or alternative school.
Another 38 kindergarten students who live in the district attend a private school of some type.
The number of home-schooled students is unknown because parents are not required to report home-schooled students under age 7.
