The Ranger hockey boys took the ice last Thursday for the first time since winning the consolation championship at the Schwan Cup. On the road against Woodbury, they won 7-2.
Junior Weston Kilpela opened the scoring in the first period with a goal at 11:36 off an assist by junior Ryan Herbert. Junior Taylor Marx followed four minutes later with a goal off passes by seniors Cody Rogala and Kyle Parker.
Rogala recorded more points in the second period with two goals, assisted by seniors Jack Schmidt and Trevor Thompson and junior Brett Gravelle. Junior Alex Egle also scored off passes from sophomore John Suess and another from Gravelle.
Capping the scoring in the third period were junior Paul Stehr and Egle again with a goal each. Parker, Rogala and Suess all recorded their second assists on the plays, and Gravelle added his third assist on the night.
Junior Jesse Garcia saved 21 of 23 shots on goal for Forest Lake.
The Rangers came back home on Saturday to play Suburban East Conference rival White Bear Lake, but fell 2-0 to the Bears. Both goals came in the second period, one off a power play. Garcia guarded the net again and faced 21 attempts.
White Bear Lake improved to 3-3-1 in SEC play, while the Rangers now sit at 3-4, and 8-6 overall.
Forest Lake travels to Hastings tonight, Jan. 10 for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
