John Preston was a pro at remembering faces and putting the correct name with that face.
He loved the Lions organization and served it well and with unbridled energy. He was a member of the Linwood and Wyoming clubs and, most recently, Forest Lake. He totaled 34 years of membership.
Preston was past zone chairman and regional chairman for the Lions and had a knack for attaching Lions with their respective clubs. Preston was a people person and often had his hand out for a handshake before the other person could initiate contact.
He received the LCIF Melvin Jones award and several other club and district awards. Preston and his wife, Lillie, served the Lions as a very effective duo, showing their love of Lions and family always.
Preston died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the age of 86.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lillie Mae and son-in-law Aaron Bennett.
He is survived by five children, Cecilyn Green, Larry Green, Jocelyn (Lennard) Johnson, Kim Bennett and Pamela Preston; by 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at Campher United Methodist Church, 585 Fuller Ave., St. Paul. A funeral service follows at 11 a.m. with burial at Linwood Cemetery. Arrangements are at Chapel Funeral Providers.
