Violinist chosen for honors orchestra

COM_SydneyNorcrossSouthwest Junior High eighth-grader Sydney Norcross has been named to the Minnesota String Orchestra Teachers Association middle level honors orchestra.

Selection to the orchestra was based on audition tapes submitted by students. “We’ve never had anybody from our district selected for this honor before,” said Southwest music teacher Poji Schreiber. “This is like getting into All-State Orchestra. It’s a huge, huge honor.”

Norcross, a violinist, will join other Minnesota string instrumentalists in grades 7 to 9 for a performance on Feb. 16 at the Minneapolis Convention Center as part of the Minnesota Music Educators Association convention.
