Ranger nordic boys’ team state-bound, girls send two
For the 13th time in 15 years, the Forest Lake nordic skiing boys will appear at the state championship race in Biwabik, Minn. after taking first at the Section 4AA meet on Wednesday.
The Rangers destroyed the competition amid heavy snowfall at Lake Elmo— all seven competitors placed in the top 20.
Senior Jacob Jankowski led the squad in second place, followed by sophomore Quinn Duffy (fourth), ninth-grader Tommy Babcock (fifth) and sophomore Leo Hipp (sixth). Senior Jack Ebel placed 11th while ninth-grader Davis Long and sophomore Alex Richert took 13th and 18th, respectively.
The Forest Lake girls’ team closed its season with a third-place finish out of 15 at the section meet, but two individuals will represent the Rangers at state.
Sophomore Rocci Wohlk captured second while ninth-grader Kate Schaaf placed 11th to earn state appearances.
Eighth-grader Miranda Overland continued to impress with a 15th-place finish, followed by sophomore Molly Mead in 23rd and rookie eighth-grader Maria Valentin in 24th.
The state championship race will take place at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik, Minn. on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m.
