Swimmers close regular season with win
Rangers defeat Cretin-Derham Hall, 91-77
The Forest Lake swimmers clinched a 91-77 win over Cretin-Derham Hall to close out their regular season at home last Thursday.
Senior Joel Stomberg and junior Andrew Bowes were a one-two scoring punch in the 200-yard freestyle relay while senior Joe Goossens and sophomore Michael Palo took second and third in the 200-yard individual medley. Sophomore Corey Bahr captured first in the 50-yard freestyle.
Junior Stefan Albright took first in the 100-yard butterfly, followed closely by junior Bryan Fleming and Bahr in second and third, respectively. Sophomore Cameron Parrucci finished second in the 100-yard freestyle.
Bowes earned a top finish in the 500-yard freestyle, followed by classmate Adam Krummi in second.
Also taking second was sophomore Mitchell Clayton in the 100-yard backstroke with Albright finishing third in the event. Senior Evan Woehl and Palo copied the two-three finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Ranger relay teams dominated once again with Bahr, Parrucci, Fleming and Goossens earning first in the 200-yard freestyle and Clayton, Palo, Albright and Parrucci taking second in the 200-yard medley. Stomberg, Woehl, senior Casey Jepsen and Goossens took third in the 200-yard medley relay.
Forest Lake finished its regular season at 5-4 in the Suburban East Conference, and will travel to Northdale Middle School in Coon Rapids on Friday, Feb. 22 for the section prelims, starting at 6 p.m. Section finals will take place at 6 p.m. the following evening.
The junior varsity will travel to Stillwater this Saturday at noon for the JV conference meet.
