Rangers place third at state nordic meet

The Ranger boys returned to the podium at the state nordic skiing meet held Thursday at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik. Forest Lake scored 345 points and finished third, an improvement of one place from 2012. Eden Prairie won the championship with 378 points, followed by Ely with 358.

Senior Jacob Jankowski paced the Rangers by finishing the pursuit in ninth place with a time of 30:52. Sophomore Quinn Duffy took 31st with a time of 31:59. Ninth-grader Tommy Babcock (39th, 32:05) and sophomore Leo Hipp (47th, 32:15) closed the scoring.

In the girls’ competition, Ranger sophomore Rocci Wohlk took 20th with a time of 36:05. Ninth-grader Kate Schaaf took 77th in her state debut, finishing in 39:15.
