The Forest Lake boys’ hockey team sought revenge on East Ridge last Thursday after losing to the Raptors 4-1 just over a month ago. The Rangers won, 5-3, to end their regular season on a high note.

Senior Cody Rogala helped his team to the 5-3 victory with a season-first hat trick.

The forward scored the first goal just 28 seconds into the game off an assist from junior Brett Gravelle, who would score his own goal two minutes later to bring the score to 2-0. Junior Jack Schmidt assisted on the play.

East Ridge answered 40 seconds later for a fast-paced 2-1 start just three-and-a-half minutes into the first period.

Rogala recorded his second goal to close the first period off an assist from senor Landon Pikala.

Forest Lake found itself in a lull in the second period, scoring no goals and allowing the Raptors to tie it up at three heading into the third period.

But the Rangers turned it on again in the final period of play, starting with a solo goal by junior Weston Kilpela three-and-a-half minutes in following a 10-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct by East Ridge.

Rogala and Gravelle connected again late in the third to give Rogala his hat trick and senior Colin Peterson a win in goal with a stellar 42-save outing.

Forest Lake has an overall record of 15-10 and Suburban East Conference record of 10-7, good for third in the SEC.

The Rangers earned the fifth seed for the Section 7AA tournament and faced fourth-seeded Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, which is currently ranked No. 17 in state on Tuesday night.
