Sea Cadets accepting recruits

FR_comm Teaser The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has openings for a limited number of young people ages 11 to 18 to join the crew of Poseidon Division.

The group meets Thursday nights at the VFW in Forest Lake and includes at least five members from the Forest Lake School District.

One weekend each month they train at the Anoka County Blaine Airport, 8891 Airport Rd. NE in Blaine.

Interviews will be held at the Blaine airport on Saturday, Mar. 2 beginning at 10 am. Appointments are necessary.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps serves a seven-county area that includes Anoka and Washington Counties.

Members have an interest in seamanship, the Navy, or other military careers.

Cadet applicants must be crime-free, drug-free and physically fit, with a C or better grade average.

The Poseidon Division Cadets program is managed by volunteers dedicated to instilling the core values of pride, service and patriotism.

Sea Cadets wear the traditional Navy uniform and can participate in a multitude of advanced training programs, including at-sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard, submarine orientation, SEAL training, search/rescue and international exchanges.

Many Sea Cadets from Poseidon Division completed 10 days of Sea Cadet boot camp at the Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, last summer. They learned about fire fighting, damage control, military drill and naval customs.

Adult volunteers with or without military experience are needed to allow the Sea Cadet program to grow.  Those with seamanship, engineering, administrative and fundraising skills are especially needed.  Interested adults are encouraged to visit on Mar. 2.

To set an appointment, contact LTjg Wendy McGowan at 651-253-3883 or LTjg Dean Sime at 612-599-0258.
