David “Dave” Nelson was born in Minneapolis to Arlis and James Nelson on Sept. 21, 1959.
He went to high school in both Mora and Burnsville. He joined the Navy at 17. After his tour of duty, he returned to Minnesota, lived and studied sales and marketing at the Anoka Vo-Tech. He worked in the Minneapolis area and married and had a child. Although he and his wife divorced years later, he stayed very close to his daughter, Kristi. We all agree that she was the most important person in his life.
David was a singer and had his own band in his younger years. He most recently worked at FG Products in Rice Lake with his uncle and cousins and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking, karaoke, and supplying friends and family with his legendary homemade pickles and peppers.
David is survived by his father, James “Jim” Nelson of Isle; daughter, Kristi Nelson and granddaughter, Kloe of Wyoming; sister, Shelly Telander and her husband Bryan of Mora; sister, Jody Nelson and her husband Todd of Great Falls, Mont.; uncle, Roger Nelson and his wife Ingrid “Cookie” of Rice Lake, Wis.; aunt, Ardean Brandt and her husband Maurie of Onamia; aunt, Avis Ridenour of Mesa, Ariz.; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Arlis Johnson; grandparents, Harry and Gladys Nelson, Arthur and Hazel Hanson; uncle, John Hanson.
David will be laid to rest near his mother at Foster Cemetery in Onamia. In lieu of a funeral, a memorial service and burial will be held in the spring. Details will be supplied at a later date.
