Forest Lake sophomores Sofia Rappa and Doug Mihelich placed in the top five in their divisions at the 2013 DECA State Conference, held March 3, 4 and 5 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.

Rappa placed third in the Sales Demonstration Soft Lines category. Mihelich took fifth in Principles of Marketing.

The competition included the top 10 finishers from each of the state’s seven DECA districts. A total of 62 Minnesota schools participated, and Forest Lake sent 10 participants. In addition to Rappa and Mihelich, they were seniors Nick Ladwig, KimCheng Lee, Evan Haas, Jesse Peterson and Dan Mollett, junior Derek Giesner and sophomores Lilia Theisen and Taylor Thomas.

At the Central Minnesota District Speech Tournament on March 8 and 9, senior Ryan Sudo advanced to the semi-final round in the Original Oratory category. Sophomore Amanda Hennen made the semi-finals in the Humorous Interpretation event.
