Forest Lake High School senior Ryan Sudo was the only local student to bring home a medal from the Class AA state speech tournament held at Blaine High School last Friday, April 19.

Sudo took sixth place in Informative Speaking. It was his second state medal.

Of the 112 Class AA teams that competed in speech statewide this year, 66 Class AA teams made it to the state tournament.

Moorhead led all schools with 14 first-place medals, and Apple Valley was second with 12.

Medals were given to the top eight students in each of 13 categories. Students from 38 schools received medals.

Adding 12 medals to its total this year, Apple Valley leads the list of top medal-winning Class AA schools with 346. Eagan, having won six medals this year, ranks a distant second with 260. Counting its one medal this year, Forest Lake is third with 181.
