The Chisago Lakes Lions Club’s Carp Fest, co-hosted this year for the first time by Frankie’s Marine, gave fishermen a reason to stay out in the rain Friday night into Saturday morning. Despite the rain, 34 three-member teams combined to haul 657 rough fish out of six lakes near Chisago City.

The bow-and-arrow tourney paid out prizes to the top 10 teams by number of fish caught and to the teams with the three biggest fish landed.

The team of Sasson, Tidd and Gariepy won top prize for taking 67 fish from South Center Lake. The team of Axley, Axley and Elgin took second place by catching 55 on North Center Lake. Third place went to Ellenberg, Williams and Cusick, who teamed up to catch 49 carp on South Center Lake.

The trio of Busenka, Remerowski and Stanley caught the tournament’s largest fish, a 28.7-pounder, on Sunrise Lake. The Magilke, Magilke and Hoffman team landed one weighing 24.18 pounds on Big Little Green Lake. Third place went to the Mann, Warner and Baumgartner squad for a 23.52-pound carp on Big Little Green Lake.

The fish will be used for trapping bait and as fertilizer.
