A dozen members of the staff at Wyoming Elementary ascended to the  roof of the school Friday night as promised.

They were Diane Dummer, Emily Eck, Aimee Ferguson, Jill Krautkremer, Tammy Lehner, Carrie Pulczinski, Shelley Quillen, Crystal Rademacher, Andy Stoyke, Candy Tilton, Jaci Wright and Kathy Wright.

The PTA fundraiser to purchase iPads raised $8,436 — not the $10,000 goal that Principal Mike Conway said would bring him to the roof, but he joined the teachers anyway.

When thunderstorms brought them down, the group of 13 spent the rest of the night in the school building.

“Many families stopped by during the evening hours to wish them well, send up favorite treats and even donate $600 on the night of the event,” PTA member Amber Setter said.

All of the money raised will go toward buying iPads before the 2013-2014 school year.

Still want to give? It’s not too late. Donations can be mailed to the PTA, care of Wyoming Elementary, and the Facebook page for Wyoming Elementary PTA has an active “donate” button.

Local businesses who supported the event include First State Bank of Wyoming, Roberts Family Funeral Home, Rice Industries, Spectrum Sign System of Blaine, Kicks ‘N Flips Swim School, Shell Gas Station and Linwood Pizza, which provided dinner for the roof dwellers.

The teachers gave up their Friday night and, in one case, even more: Kathy Wright spent her wedding anniversary on the roof.
