The Forest Lake boys golf team racked up another Section 7AAA championship this year by scoring a combined 604 points over the course of the two-day tournament in Hinckley.

The Rangers were in second place after day one with 303 points, while Grand Rapids had the lead at 300. But Forest Lake came back to shoot a 301 on day two for two-under-par as a team, while the Thunderhawks fell back with a score of 316.

All Ranger golfers broke 80 on day two, including a stellar finish on the back nine to bring the trophy home. While Grand Rapids had just one golfer break 40 on the back nine at Grand National Golf Course, Forest Lake had five golfers score in the 30s.

Senior Trevor Thompson was the section tournament champion by shooting a 74 on day one and 73 on day two for a total of 147, while junior Luke Resler had an impressive showing, taking second in the section with a total of 149 (74, 75). Junior Daniel Massey also placed top 10 with a tie for eighth place by scoring 152 (75,77).

Other key contributors to the title win were senior Max Kelly (81, 76), junior Nick Moe (80, 78) and ninth-grader Jack Kluge (81, 78).

“Trevor Thompson was a deserving champion, and Luke Resler stepped up and had his best performance of the year,” head coach John Buck said. “The second day was solid for everyone. I’m extremely happy to see the boys reach their goal of getting back to state and having the opportunity to play for a state title.”

The Rangers compete for the state title on Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.
