Mike White tried the beer at last year’s Washington County Historical Society event at Hay Lake Park in Scandia. This year the festivities will begin with an old-fashioned baseball game.

Summer at the Hay Lake Museum in Scandia means it’s time for the Washington County Historical Society’s annual beer tasting event.

If you are 21 or older, for $15 you can raise a glass and offer a toast 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at the Hay Lake Museum, located just south of downtown Scandia at the corner of County Road 3 and Old Marine Trail.

Whether you enjoy a good lager or pale ale, the beer tasting will have what you like, including samples from Lift Bridge, Still-H20, St. Croix, Rush River, Flat Earth, Summit, Big Woods, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevad, Leinenkugel, Third Street and Deschutes.

Tod Fyten II of St. Croix Brewing will speak on the history and future of brewing in the United States and Minnesota.

The event will also feature a silent auction and raffle to benefit the historical society.

The Scandia-Marine Lions Club will be selling food throughout the evening.

Before the beer-tasting event, at 2:15 p.m., the entire family is invited to watch the St. Croix Base Ball Club take on the Northfield Silver Stars at the Lions Park, next door to the museum. The match will follow 1860s rules of base ball. This event is free.

The Washington County Historical Society, a private, donor-supported, nonprofit organization, was founded in 1934. This is the sixth year for the beer tasting.
