Construction started Monday on a single-lane roundabout at the Highway 61/170th Street North (County Road 4) intersection in Hugo. Motorists will encounter delays in both directions as 170th Street closes just west of Highway 61. In addition, Highway 61 will be restricted to one lane while crews set up barriers and construct a temporary trail on the southbound shoulder of the highway. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Highway 61, 170th Street east of Highway 61 and the Hardwood Creek Trail will remain open to traffic during this stage of construction, the first of three.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour of 20th Avenue to Frenchman Road (County Road 8) to Highway 61 then back to 170th Street N. This section of road will re-open by late June.
Project construction is expected to be complete by Aug. 31. For more information about project stages and detours, visit www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy61and170th/. For more information about roundabouts in Minnesota, visit www.dot.state.mn.us/roundabouts/.
