Those considering providing alcohol to minors for graduation parties may want to think again. Eighteen revelers were transported to jail from a party in Forest Lake Saturday, June 8.

Forest Lake police received a noise complaint around 2:30 that morning regarding a gathering in the 22000 block of Keather Avenue North.

According to Capt. Greg Weiss, the following unfolded upon the arrival of officers. Partygoers fled into nearby woods or the house. Those inside locked the doors, turned off the lights and pulled the shades. They refused an officer’s request to gain entry. Police contacted the out-of-town homeowner, who also refused to give permission for entry. Police obtained a warrant and made entry.

Eighteen people were found inside, all adults. The host was cited for violating the city’s social host ordinance and also charged with providing alcohol to underage drinkers. Each of the others booked were charged with underage consumption.

“Our whole mission was to send a message to partygoers at grad parties, or whatever it might be, that we’re not taking it lightly,” Weiss said.
