Buddhist festival expected to draw large crowd this weekend

Thousands are expected in Forest Lake for a Buddhist festival being held this weekend. The Lao Temple & Vipassana Center on Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, will hold the annual event to celebrate Boun Pravet (also spelled Boon Pha Vet), an Buddhist holiday. The outdoor event is open to the public and will take place at the temple grounds at 4350 232nd St. N., just west of Cub Foods. (Watch for signs along the road.)

Activities such as dancing, live music and volleyball will run until sundown on Saturday and Sunday. Food vendors will also be at the cultural and religious festival. The entire community is invited; information on Buddhism will be available to those interested.

The festival has been held in various Twin Cities communities in recent years.
