Youth car wash to benefit community

Washing a car at last year’s event.

If you own a car, you can do a good deed this weekend.

Members of the youth advisory board at the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau will be washing cars for three hours, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the parking lot of Mattson Funeral Home at 343 North Shore Drive in Forest Lake.

You decide what it’s worth: A free-will donation will be taken for each car wash.

The youth advisory board is students in grades 7-12 who wish to make a positive impact on the community. They have two sponsors, the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau and the community education department of Forest Lake Area Schools.

The students will use proceeds from the car wash to support future community service projects. Last year, they bought fabric to make fleece tie blankets and donated the blankets to homeless youth in the area.

Students interested in making a difference are welcome to join the board. They will help plan service projects and events, participate in fun programming and become an important part of the community. To join, call Andria at 651-464-3685 or Kristy at 651-982-8328 or visit www.ysblakesarea.org.

The non-profit Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau exists to ensure the success of youth in Forest Lake Area School District communities in Washington and Anoka counties and all communities in Chisago County.
