Elim volunteers earn recognition

The Washington County Board of Commissioners recently recognized the volunteer efforts of the congregation of Elim Lutheran Church, Scandia. District 1 Commissioner Fran Miron on June 18 presented a plaque to Elim’s Deb Krenz as the county’s way of saying thanks for the church’s longtime participation in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Elim was among 10 groups honored for being part of the program for 20 years. The congregation cares for County State Aid Highway 3 (Olinda Trail) between County Road 52 and 195th Street. Washington County began its Adopt-A-Highway Program in 1991. At that time, 36 groups began collecting litter from 78 miles of county roads. The program has grown to 119 groups caring for 252 miles of roads. This work saves the county more than $82,000 in maintenance costs annually.
