Adults who enjoy sharing their interest in plants are encouraged to apply for the 2014 Master Gardener program.
Master Gardeners receive 48 hours of training by University of Minnesota Extension. The course includes lawn care, trees and shrubs, entomology, fruits, flowers, vegetables and plant pathology.
An internship, 50 hours of volunteer service, is required in the first year.
To continue, volunteers must attend at least five hours of continuing education and perform at least 25 hours of service each year: answering phone questions, hosting plant and insect diagnostic clinics, teaching classes, working with youth, and staffing booths at garden centers and fairs.
Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the Bunker Hills Activities Center, 550 Bunker Lake Blvd. in Andover. A $10 application fee applies.
Accepted applicants will be notified in November and must pay $275 for the core course.
