Mollie Laro of Wyoming has won the Kemps ice cream flavor contest at the Minnesota State Fair.

She will receive $2,500 for taking first place, and Kemps will produce her new ice cream flavor, Pistachio Fruit Party. The new ice cream will be available in stores next summer, with Laro’s name on the container. She will also receive 24 cartons of the ice cream, a year’s supply, and will be a judge for next year’s competition.

“I am also hoping to be able to bring home a big container of my ice cream after the state fair is over, so that I can have an ice cream party to celebrate my win!” Laro said.

Kemps Pistachio Fruit Party ice cream will have a green pistachio-flavored layer, a whipped cream-flavored layer and a pink fruit-flavored layer, with pieces of fruit and miniature marshmallows. Laro said she was inspired to create the recipe based on the salad she brings to family gatherings.

Kemps used online voting to narrow down the finalists to three, and at the Kemps booth at the Minnesota State Fair, ice cream lovers could sample the top three flavors from the competition and vote for their favorite.

Laro expressed her gratitude to Forest Lake Times readers who voted. “Please be sure to tell all your readers a big thank you from me for all their votes. The online and telephone votes were an important part of my win,” Laro said.
