FL swimmers drop close meet to White Bear Lake

The Forest Lake girls swimming and diving team lost a heartbreaker Thursday, Aug. 29, to White Bear Lake.

Senior Maddi Gemuenden took first place by a landslide in the 1-meter dive with 184.55 points. The next diver recorded 122.5. Junior Rachel Chatwin took top honors for the Rangers in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.25, a full two seconds ahead of the runner up from White Bear Lake.

Other top finishes include the 200-yard medley relay team of junior Stephanie Brenk, sophomore Emma Dolby, Chatwin and eighth-grader Kenzie Klein with a time of 2:04.76, and the 200-yard freestyle relay squad of ninth-grader Emma Nelson, Dolby, sophomore Andrea Dunrud and Chatwin with a time of 1:51.09. The latter team was out-touched by the Bears by less than half of a second.

Individually, Dunrud took second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.63, less than a tenth of a second behind the front runner. Junor Rocci Wohlk took second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:37.50, while Klein took second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.81). Wohlk also took second place in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:12.24.

Chatwin took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58:67, while Dunurd recorded a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:00.78.

In the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Dunrud, junior Kristin Stomberg, junior Jessica Walker and Klein came up just short of the first-place points needed for the win by taking second in the event with a time of 4:09.02.

Next, Forest Lake goes up against Mounds View at 7 p.m. tonight, Sept. 5.
