St. Cloud State University students Zachary Barnaal of Wyoming, Shelby Taylor of Forest Lake and Sarah Starling of Bethel were awarded Mary Beth Wedum Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each semester for fall 2013 and spring 2014.
The scholarships, funded by the J.A. Wedum Foundation, are intended to make an undergraduate education more accessible to single parents.
Recipients will be recognized at a scholarship reception on Sept. 11 at St. Cloud State’s Welcome Center.
“Mary Beth Wedum is an SCSU alumnus and was a single mother while attending college,” said Jay Portz, J. A. Wedum Foundation president. “She knew first-hand the challenges that students face while trying to improve their lives.”
St. Cloud State University is Minnesota’s second-largest university, with more than 16,000 students and 200 programs of study.
